Eugene Sor
Cellist


Eugene C. Sor has maintained an active career as a versatile chamber and
symphony musician and music educator since 1996. As cellist of the
Chamberlain String Quartet 1996-2000, Mr. Sor gave frequent clinics and
master classes, and he appeared in several recitals performing many of the
string quartet repertoire's finest works. During Eugene's tenure CSQ held
assistantships at San Francisco State University and Cal-State Hayward
University and worked in conjunction with San Francisco Performances'
educational program . Mr. Sor has appeared as a guest artist several times
with the Alexander String Quartet, performing string sextets and octets to
critical acclaim. He also has performed with Napa Valley Symphony and San
Francisco Chamber Orchestra, and in the fall of 2001 he was appointed the
Principal Cellist of Stockton Symphony and cellist for the award-winning
Volta String Quartet, with whom he has recently appeared in Ottawa and
Montreal as well as throughout the Bay Area.

Currently on faculty with The Crowden School of Music, Crowden Community
Music Center, Black Pine Circle School, and Young Musicians' Program at UC
Berkeley, Eugene has also enjoyed coaching students in Young People's
Chamber Orchestra, Berkeley Youth Orchestra, and Young People's Symphony
Orchestra. He has appeared as a guest conductor at Cazadero Performing Arts
Camp and La Honda Summer Music Camp, and most recently he has been named
conductor of the talented training orchestra for the prestigious youth group
Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra.

Mr. Sor received his B.Mus. degree from SFSU in 1993 and his MM. degree from
UCLA in 1996. Among his many esteemed music teachers and coaches have been
Milly Rosner, Barry Gold, Anne Crowden, Ben Simon, Colin Hampton, Alexander
Treger, Camille Avellano, and members of the Alexander String Quartet, the
Janacek String Quartet, and the Lanier Piano Trio.
